C&G 2921-34 EV Charging Installation (Domestic & Small Commercial)

£370.00Price

Course Code: TC10115

Duration: 2 days

With the sale of new petrol and diesel cars ending in 2030 and over two million plug-in vehicles already on UK roads, demand for charging infrastructure is growing fast, and it needs qualified electricians to install it. This City & Guilds Level 3 qualification gives you the technology-specific knowledge to design and install EV charging equipment in domestic and small commercial premises with confidence.

Over two days you'll cover the key documentation and legislation relating to electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), the different types and features of charging equipment available, and the design considerations that sit behind a safe, compliant installation. You'll also work through the testing, commissioning and handover requirements specific to EV charging circuits, and look at the use of vehicles as electrical energy storage as part of prosumer installations. The course covers both AC and DC charging equipment for plug-in electric vehicles, in line with BS EN 61851, the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation and BS 7671:2018+A2:2022. It finishes with a 30-question online multiple-choice exam.

The qualification is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme and may be required by MCS-certified employers, making it an important credential if you're working in or moving towards renewables and low-carbon technologies.

Who can attend?

This is a supplementary short course for competent, qualified electricians. You'll need to hold and evidence a recognised Level 3 electrotechnical qualification, such as the C&G 2357, 5357, 2356, 2346 or 2347, or an accepted equivalent from another awarding organisation. An ECS Gold Card (domestic electrician), JIB Electrician or Approved Electrician Card is also acceptable, as are equivalent historical qualifications listed in the EAS qualifications guide. Learners in Scotland may instead hold an SVQ in Electrical Installation at SCQF level 7, and learners in Wales an EAL Level 3 Building Services Engineering Electrotechnical Installation qualification.

Your qualification must have been achieved within the last five years, or you'll need to evidence that you've remained current by holding the latest edition of the Wiring Regulations qualification. If you're unsure whether you meet the entry requirements, give us a call and we'll check before you book.

What to bring

You'll need your copies of the IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition A4:2026, the IET On-Site Guide 18th Edition A4:2026, IET Guidance Note 3: Inspection & Testing (10th Edition) and the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation (5th Edition).
